The Plaza was the place to 'hang' when you had nothing better to do, and a little extra cash to spend. College students flocked to it on Friday afternoons, before they would skip off to Harlequin for a more involved night on the town. Of course, today wasn't Friday, it was Saturday. Which meant that most college students were still sleeping off their hangovers, and possibly (probably) waking up to find a complete stranger sleeping in their bed.
Kiera, however, had stayed in last night. Why? Because she'd been catching up on the mountain and a half of homework she'd been assigned within the past two weeks. That meant writing up two essays, completing a biology chart, reading a book and writing a review, and also reading three chapters of notes from her math book, as well as two extra chapters from her forensics text book.
Which basically meant that she'd had a hangover the next morning anyway, but that was just due to consuming way to much information, and typing on her lap top until three in the morning.
So, bored, with a headache, and with nothing else to do, she'd left the college grounds and headed here. But, to her disappointment, the plaza wasn't any more exciting than sitting in her room and staring at her screen-saver.
But, since being bored was becoming a full-time occupation for Kiera, she figured it didn't matter where exactly she was being bored, as long as she was. Bored.
The only thing she'd had time for lately was school work, free-time had been a distant fantasy to her these past months at the University. So, being as misinformed as she was, it made sense that she picked the wrong place to have fun, on the wrong day.
A few kids were lounging around, laying on the benches that surrounded the large center fountain, ipod ear-buds stuffed in their heads, absentmindedly bobbing their heads to whatever it was they were listening to. Of course, these students were all doped up on Excedrin, and didn't give a damn that someone semi-conscious was in their midsts.
Sighing loudly, she sat down on one of the unoccupied benches with, then groaned. She'd sat down in a shallow puddle of water, condensation from the fountain's continuously flowing spout. Today just isn't my day... She complained mentally, eyes drifting around The Plaza. She'd been to most of the shops, even bought a new necklace, which she had immediately pulled over her head. It had large beads on a silver chain which were bright red.
The bright red beads went with her dark gray t-shirt, which had a darker red swirling design running across Kiera's ribs. Over the shirt was an stormy blue-gray colored jacket, and this all was paired with some jeans and black flats. Kiera's hair, normally a dark blond, almost brunette color, was now a light sunny yellow color. It had been bleached by the sun constantly all summer. Pulling her wavy hair up, she tied it back into a pony-tail, wrestling with it for a minute or so before it would fit inside the band. If the only excitement she had all day was putting up her hair, she wouldn't be surprised.
Kiera had been at Evans' University since the beginning of this term, but she still hadn't made any close friends. So the rest of her Saturdays were going to resemble this one, unless she got her act together soon. "Hey, I'm Kiera." She greeted a girl who was slumped on the bench next to her.
As an answer, all she got was a glare, and then the girl pushed herself off the bench, turned her ipod up louder, and walked away. "Yeah, nice to meet you too!" She called sarcastically after the girl, who kept on walking. Laying back on the bench, Kiera closed her eyes, only to have them pop back open as a voice echoed above her head. "Where'd the girl that was laying here go?"
Blinking once, Kiera lifted herself up to look at the ipod toting guy, pointing harmlessly at the bench next to her. "She your girlfriend?" She asked, not really paying much attention to the conversation.
"Hey, how would you like it if I dug into your personal life?" The boy shot back at her, scowling. "I would hate it," She answered back, smiling innocently. "That's why, cleverly, I have no personal life."
With a snort, the guy turned and began walking down the same route the girl had taken earlier. "Your an idiot." He mumbled over his shoulder, and Kiera smiled charmingly. "I like to think of myself as more of a jerk actually...."
When the boy was really gone, Kiera sat back on the bench, closing her eyes. Reaching into her pocket, she pulled out a pill-white ipod, and stuck the buds into her ears. "Damn peer pressure."
